All are invited to participate in a special event as part of the MFA group show, A Fresh Civility. The activity A Common Thread takes place at the Plaxall Gallery in LIC on Saturday, April 21st from 2:30-4:30pm.
Join artist Naomi Kuo for an afternoon of hand quilting and conversation. Participants will sit around a small wooden quilting frame and learn to hand quilt – that is, to attach the layers of a quilt together with using needle, thread, and thimble. This quiet and meditative time spent together will be opportunity for conversation about personal and family relationships to sewing, craft and creativity. What are the cultural forces that have maintained, changed, or disrupted textile practices? What is the common thread connecting us to our pasts and to each other?
